    Molding Chocolate with Knead-a-Mold
Knead-a-Mold is non-toxic, food-safe, and can withstand high temperatures -- perfect for making your own custom candy or chocolate molds.

Create custom shapes out of polymer clay (bake it before molding it), wood, etc. or create your molds from found objects like small shells, jewelry, etc. For our project we used shells and a starfish.

Mix the Knead-a-Mold, using equal parts of A and B. When the color is uniform, press your item neatly into the putty and carefully set it aside to cure. It will set up in about ten minutes or less. After the mold has cured, gently loosen it from the item. Allow it to sit for about an hour before using.

When you\'re ready to make chocolates, wash and thoroughly dry the molds you have made. Knead-a-Mold can be washed with warm, soapy water. Be sure the molds are completely dry (a hair dryer will help if you\'re in a rush).

For our project we used Candymaker meltable wafers. These are available at most craft stores and come in dark, milk, and white chocolate as well as a variety of colors. Best of all, they\'re microwaveable.

Melt the chocolate wafers according to the directions on the package. Pour or spoon the melted candy wafers into your Knead-a-Mold molds. Do not overfill, and be sure to lightly tap each mold to release any air bubbles in the chocolate. Refrigerate for 20 to 30 minutes or until chocolate pieces are firm. Invert the molds and gently pop the chocolate out.

You can re-use your Knead-a-Mold molds again and again! It is important to reserve any food molds strictly for food -- do not use the same molds for clay and other crafts.

Miscellaneous tips:

- When pressing your shape into the putty, it is helpful to gently push the putty up to the edges of your shape to form a steep, crisp edge. This will make your chocolates look better.

- Knead-a-Mold is excellent for duplicating very fine detail. If your chocolate molds have a lot of detail in them, you will find it helpful to use a small, clean paintbrush and paint some chocolate into the detail impressions before you pour the chocolate to fill the molds.
